Most people have never heard of Angular Cheilitis; well at least I know that I can honestly say that I had never heard of it until I happened to acquire the condition. In short and simple terms; it is a severe case of chapped lips. So what is angular cheilitis and how does it infect people?
No it is not your typical case of chapped lips that will go away if you just apply carmex or any other type of lip protection. The truth is that it is caused by a bacterial infection that will quickly tear your lips apart.
Causes Of Angular Cheilitis:
We are all susceptible to this illness and in fact it is known to affect all ages and genders; however there are some people who are more prone to acquiring this condition. I wanted to provide you with some causes of angular cheilitis that hopefully you will be able to avoid so that you do not have to get this horrible condition.
1. Dentures: People who wear dentures are more susceptible to this condition; the reason being that it is extremely easy to get dentures that do not properly fit. When the dentures do not support the muscles of your face then the moisture from your mouth will site on the corners of your mouth leaving you vulnerable to this condition.
2. Cracked Lips: People who suffer from cracked lips are also extremely susceptible to angular cheilitis. Make sure that you always keep your lips properly moisturized to prevent constant dry lips.
3. Licking Your Lips: Eventually as you continue this bad habit; it can lead to this condition. Avoid licking or biting your lips constantly to avoid getting this disease.
4. Wiping: Anyone who is constantly wiping the corners of their mouth will be at risk to acquire this disease as well.
5. Cold Temperatures: We all know that cold temperatures can easily cause dry skin and cracked lips. Avoid extremely cold temperatures whenever possible.
